The Internet Innovation Alliance is a broad-based coalition of business and non-profit organizations that aim to ensure every American, regardless of race, income or geography, has access to the critical tool that is broadband Internet. The IIA seeks to promote public policies that support equal opportunity for universal broadband availability and adoption so that everyone, everywhere can seize the benefits of the Internet - from education to health care, employment to community building, civic engagement and beyond.

Stimulus: A National Broadband Strategy

FCC Notice of Inquiry on National Broadband Strategy

The FCC released a Notice of Inquiry on developing a national broadband plan that will seek to ensure that every American has access to broadband capability. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 requires the FCC to create a national broadband plan and to deliver it to Congress by Feb. 17, 2010. The FCC seeks comment on the following areas:

  • Goals for overall broadband plan.
  • Most effective, efficient methods to help define impact of goals on existing programs and competition between content providers.
  • Detailed strategy regarding affordability, maximum use out of infrastructure.
  • How to evaluate deployment of broadband and project progress.
  • How broadband plan should interact with ARRA’s goals.
  • Best ways to enable coordination between federal agencies, states and others.
  • How to define a plan to help expand use of broadband by all Americans and increase technology literacy.
